I spent two of my Saturdays this January at the Petron Service Station waiting room because Dylan, my '93 Sentra, was making weird noises. I wish that I could say that it was a fun and enjoyable experience. Too bad I can't. No girl likes to spend her first sweldo on something as practical as car maintenance. However, I can honestly say that while having my car fixed was not exactly a joyful experience, at least it was bearable and easy enough to endure.
I first discovered this Petron branch last summer. My car was overheating while I was stuck at the C5 toll booths. The staff found a LOT of things that were wrong with my car, not just the fact that it was overheating. At that time, I was also having trouble with my aircon. The mechanic mama took Dylan to told us it couldn't be fixed without spending a lot of money. Well, the Petron guys (specifically Mang Jun) fixed it at relatively low cost. Ever since that summer, I've been a loyal customer at Petron C5.
The staff are pleasant and knowledgeable folk, and they do their best to cut down the cost for the parts. They pretty much know that people have tight budgets, so they'll recommend pieces that are good replacements if you can't afford originals. Just don't ask any mechanic to diagnose what's wrong with your car though... as much as possible, get Chief to do it (the Chief Mechanic. I forgot to look at his nametag, but I called him Chief because that's what everyone called him). One of the mechanics thought the noise might be because of the timing chain, which would cost a lot to repair. Thankfully, Chief stepped in and tinkered around till he found what was wrong.
You just gotta admire folks who figure out answers to problems when all they've got to go on is "Basta Kuya, iba na yung tunog niya sa dati!" Hehehe :)
The waiting area is rather cold, but the nice cashier will lower the thermostat or turn the aircon off if you ask her to. You can also plug in your computer and watch a DVD or read an ebook while waiting. And there are places to eat nearby so you don't have to sit on the stiff chairs at the waiting area all the time. There's Jollibee, Chow King, Treats, and Jaemark's Grill. There's also Holy Kettle Korn! Big plus: there are nice clean bathrooms :D
At the end of the day, I drove home with a Dylan that purred again. It was 8 hours of waiting and a good chunk of my salary, but it was definitely worth it :)
P.S.
I spent my salary on gas, food, and my car. Parang lalake. HAYYYY! Next salary I swear I'm going to do something frivolous with it and feel like a girl. Mani/Pedi at California Nail and Day Spa? Ay, mahal ata. Hmmm.
